Today I want to share my current favourite lipsticks.. I'm a sucker for dark nudes but I have thrown a cheeky berry shade in! I've also been loving spiced colours, they're gorgeous and really help to boost my lip colour just past its natural shade.

UD's lipstick is really creamy with a lot of staying power. It doesn't dehydrate/dry out my lips, and I also do not need to replenish my lips too often. It's perfect for those days where you don't want to wear too much makeup, but still feel done up.

MAC's Velvet Teddy has seriously been doing its rounds this year due to the Jenner's! It's the perfect matte nude, and totally worth the money. I am in love, totally and truly. It is another lipstick which conditions and stays on the lip really well.

The Superstay is a slightly different something that I've steered clear of for a while, but I'm not sure why.. Maybe experience with Soap and Glories previous sticky formula! But this is totally different! It feels like a liquid lipstick, and dries quickly. It also comes with a balm, which I'm not a fan of but did not buy the product for. I do find it useful, however, to apply before the lip colour. I feel like this was a product that may have been found to be drying in the testing process, but simply put a balm with it to counter-act this.. Not too great a selling point, but I'm in LOVE with the colour, especially combined with Rimmel's Spice Lip Liner.

Rimmel's Lip Liner in Spice is so versatile and a really great product! I feel like it can be used all over the lip or simply to line the lip to bring out bricker/spcier tones in what is applied over the top, it brings out a POP of colour.

Finally is Berry Much, my new favourite berry shade which contains no glitter! It isn't too dark for my skin tone which is fab, and comes in a pencil form, but somehow really does still feel nourishing on the lip.

In Summer 2016, me and a friend are taking the epic adventure to Orlando, which I haven't visited since I was 8, and my friend has never stepped foot in the USA. This is to celebrate my end of uni, and her start.

The first steps we took was to look at dates, we knew around the start of Summer would be a good idea as it's just before peak season when the prices start to increase. With this in mind, we headed down to the travel agents - an obvious step, but they can really help collate ideas.

With a date in mind, it was easy to search with an agent the best deals for a budget of around £700 in the International Drive area to allow access to all the theme parks and shopping without the necessity of driving or being bound to one area or Orlando itself.

Top Tip: Driving
If you're 21 and over you can drive in America, depending on the company. You may have to have been driving X amount of years, and a lot of tax is added p/day.
If you're 25 and over, you are not charged this tax.

We looked around for the best deals and decided that Thomas Cook provided us with a friendly service, good deal, and familiarity. We booked into a 3 star hotel, flights, and they were totally helpful in booking our transfers as well, and with that, we placed our deposit!

An amalgamation of my birthday, surprises and my recent splurge!

The new toothy tabs within their new, and in my opinion better, packaging are now available in all stores! I picked up lime-light, after deliberating with a member of staff..
I was so excited for my boyfriend to pick up Snow Melt, an Oxford Street exclusive bath oil that's a lot larger than your normal bath oil, you're definitely getting your £2 worth here.

A product I feel will be overlooked but is amazing this Christmas is Bar Humbug.. It's scent description may be daunting - and I personally don't like liqourice - but it is sweet without being overpowering. It has the same look as Blue Skies, The Comforter etc.

The Magic of Christmas is also a new product for this year, and I'm super excited to use it. It encapsulates everything I associate with Christmas - spices and cinnamon.

Peaking in the background is Salt and Peppermint Bark - I've gone craaaazy for mint this year, buying a tub of Christingle, using Dirty, and now extending to the scrub!

There is also a few other products previously only in the Oxford Street store to buy at all stores, such as Big Bang and a few of the bath oils.

Here are some classics that everyone knows and loves; Cinders, Lord of Misrule, and Holly Go Lightly.. There's also an appearance from Shimmy Shimmy, and a mysterious soap that my boyfriend got given!

I am super excited about milky bath.. I bought it on my first trip to Oxford Street, and it honestly replaces Butterball, hands down.. AND IT HAS BUBBLES. It's the combination of bath melt and bubble bar that does it for me.

Another returner is The Golden Wonder.

Products mentioned within this post:
The Golden Wonder | Eau Roma Water Toner | Milky Bath | Yog Nog | Salt and Peppermint Bark | Lord of Misrule | Shimmy Shimmy | Big Bang | Pumpkin | Holly Go Lightly | Cinders | Snow Melt Bath Oil | Magic of Christmas | Soap?? | Lime-light Toothy Tabs | D'Fluff | Bar Humbug | Beautiful Shower Gel | Salted Coconut
Not pictured:
Christingle | Snow Fairy | Dirty | Icing on the Cake Roulade | Intergalactic | Yog Nog Soap | Dragon's Egg

On my recent trip to (and splurge at) Lush, I was guided around and felt absolutely pampered by the staff - and then who pops to say 'hi'? Jess!

Jess is a fellow blogger I met last year who became, as I remember, totally enthralled by the store! She took me round some of her favourite products, and it was lovely to be talked to by someone who understands bloggers going into Lush; we don't want to be totally overwhelmed, we know what we want, but we still need a lil' help!

After taking me round a few items, she sat me down for a bit of a pamper.. I was completely tense, my hand was closed up, but she made me relax - uni stress is taking it's toll at the moment.

We started with Salted Coconut, something I'd been sniffing but repulsed by previously.. But having no idea what Jess would bring back, I was slightly intimidated by the prospect of having this product on me.. I was wrong to be repulsed. On the skin it smells lovely, and isn't too abrasive! It will really look after my hands in the coming winter months - and yes, that does mean that I bought a pot! It can be used wet for a soft exfoliation, or on dry hands for a rougher experience.. *wink*.
...This creamy coconut and sea salt exfoliator is the perfect way to keep your paws in tip top condition...
I personally think it makes a change from me using The Golden Handshake - a hot hand mask. Without the 'right' equipment it gets a bit messy, and I'm not perfect at getting the consistency right. It's a lot quicker as well, and I will be saving my Handshakes for the colder days when my fingers are about to fall off now!

Following this, we used the Celebrate Christmas Body Lotion, which is so soothing and hydrating, whilst also including that bit of pep!
Give your skin cause for celebration by smoothing on this intoxicatingly citrusy body lotion with a splash of cognac..

Finally, absorb a bit of moisture, we used the First Snow dusting powder. I have been interested in dusting powders for a while, especially with being blessed with the larger of lady lumps! This adds a shine to the skin, and added the final touch to how soft my skin became.
An uplifting blend of merry-making essential, congac, and lime oils...

I've never found a regime as amazing as this! What are your thoughts? What's your Lush regime?

Mermaids generally whip up the idea of fantasy, the ocean, magic, mystery, and even death among more. For Halloween costumes they supply endless ideas - the creation of gills by use of sfx, the siren, the sea princess, The Little Mermaid (Hans Christien Andersen's version, naturally)..

I honed in on these ideas to  create a fishy mermaid look!
I started off with Maybelline's Eye Studio Colour Tattoo eye shadows in eternal gold and pink gold.
On top of this I layered Urban Decay's Freeze, Dragon, Heroine and Vanity from the Vice 3 Palette, and Rockstar, Evidence, and Loaded from the Smoked Palette.

I used the shades from the Vice 3 palette to also create the eye look, randomly placing splodges.. Technical terms here guys! I then applied this mixture of colours to the lips, and on the centre of this I layered Make Up Revolutions Unicorns Unite lipstick in Horn of Magic.

What do you think?

Whilst I daren't commit to Ben Nye/Kryolan/Mehron this Halloween, I found an alternative in the cheap but cheery Snazaroo SFX kit including gel blood, wax, a pan of dark red and tools and my own make up selection.

The first look I created was an attempt at 'hooked', which gave me inspiration for another post coming verrrry soon!
A few people freaked out on Instagram, asking me if I was okay, suggesting that this did the trick.

The second attempt with the SFX kit saw me creating two  wound holes in my hand, as this was an easy place to practice with few hairs. I prefer the second look here, as it looks more like a burn, or a chicken scratch/pulling away the skin that had become shiny.

Other products used:
Urban Decay's Smoked and Vice 3 palettes
Barry M red kohl pencil

With the rise of Zombies and Pop Art becoming more popular this year, I thought I'd attempt and ode to this. I'm pretty proud of the brains, but wished I had a darker green to hand for the first look.
I love the pink added to the nose, but potentially the brows could do with something different.
This look was fun trying to create, but I don't think my efforts paid off.. On the other hand, I love my smokey eyes!
When I started to wash the product off, I saw an opportunity.. I attempted a look where only parts of my face were being taken over by the Zombae's bite.

Products Used:
Snazaroo green face paint
Snazaroo white face paint to cover eyebrows
Urban Decay Smoked Palette, shade Blackout
Soap and Glory eyeliner
L'oreal Miss Manga Punky mascara
Lips, wounds and brows-
Revlon Just Bitten in Lovesick
MUA black eyeliner

The only addition to the look below is the red lipstick, which is Rimmel's Alarm.

Continuing with the posts featuring Glitter Lips*, this is my second Harley Quinn look.

In look number 2, I used Glitter Lips in the more traditional manner, using the Glitter Lips Kit itself in Ruby Slippers.

By putting the cosmetic glue, letting it get tacky and using cosmetic glitter over the top, a wearable and lasting look is created, perfect for night out. I again used the Festival Stencils but this time used the Ruby Slippers glitter to apply the heart.

The kits are super easy to use and not messy at all, it's like applying lipgloss and then putting some form of lipcote over the top, instead of sealing the gloss you're applying glitter that simply doesn't budge! The glitter sticks straight away with no fall out at all - not even a steady hand is needed.
I would recommend, however, using a moisturising balm before applying.

When looking back at this look, I probably wouldn't include the glitter dribble.. I also switched around which eye was blue and pink, I'd call this a continuity error.. Shhh..

With this look, I'm bringing all those nights crying at Bambi back, with this morbid Halloween take on the classic film. I'm Bambi's Mum.

I created this look last year without the gore, but didn't post it up due to it not in fitting with my posts. I must say, however, I prefer last years initial deer make up quite a lot more, which is weird considering I followed exactly the same reference pictures.

The original look from last year.

Maybe my face has changed shape. Adding to this I put more eyeliner down the sides of my nose, and did not put anything on to create deer lips, nor did I go in with eyeshadow on the eyes, instead simply using a white eyeliner.

Products Used:
Snazaroo white face paint - Exact shade rubbed off.
Snazaroo light brown face paint - Exact shade rubbed off.
Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette: Truth, Undone, Downfall, DTF, Bobby Dazzle, Defy.

For me it's all about James Bay.. His voice is speaking to me this Autumn, and helping the weatherly change into Winter. Every song reminds me of Autumnal colours.
I am known for not liking female fronted rock bands, however over the past few months I've been absolutely trying to find at least one that I do. I found it. Her. Them, in the form of Marmozets.

I've been completely inspired, although not a fan of DC, by the look of Harley Quinn in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie.

I've created two looks over two posts, featuring Glitter Lips*, and enjoyed the process for both.

In look number 1, I used Glitter Lips' Festival Face Stencils* to create a black heart which I then smudged out, shown in the second image below.

By placing the tacky stencils over my face, I was able to quickly and neatly put a dark shadow on in a heart shape, which did not spill over the edges until I smudged it. I feel like this would also look great with a glitter heart in the shade Dark Disorder.

Whilst I was getting ready to post a Sugar Skull tutorial I stumbled across this article:
How Not to Wear a Racist Halloween Costume This Year.
This made me rethink, and not post this tutorial/look.

Are you thinking tl;dr? Simply put, white privileged people like myself, take other cultures out of their context which can become offensive in some ways. I was not aware that this could cover even the Mexican Day of the Dead, but the more I thought about it, the more aware I became.

It is not fair of me, or anyone else, to take this celebration out of its context - The Day of the Dead becomes 'celebrated' on Halloween, a Pagan, not Mexican tradition. It is not my culture, and I am not respecting it by painting myself in a similar fashion, even if my intent meant no harm.

The article goes on to cover blackface, Native American headdresses, among other culturally specific items and idols.

This has also made me think about my header, but come back to me on that one..
Be clever this Halloween and celebrate with originality, but most of all, have fun!

21st BIRTHDAY WISHLIST by laura-rix

Friday, 11 September 2015

Whilst this post reaches you a little late, I'd love to share with you some items that Prairie Charms sent to me at the start of the Summer season, which I have continued to use throughout. Some of these products I bought, whilst others were added as little extras.

The items arrived wrapped in a holographic bubble wrap envelope, and inside everything was wrapped individually with beautiful floral tissue paper, which was slightly perfumed, and washi tape, adding a cutesy homemade feel, finished off with the prairie charms logo sticker.

Contained inside was:
Three hair bobbles, which have lasted me all Summer and do not snag my hair.
Nail glitter, for a dolled up look - I opened the pot without realising.. Oops.. Glitter attack!
A black elasticated hairband, which I use to clear hair out of my face whilst applying make up.
Paper straws, adding a bit of rustic charm to my flat - I now have three packs of these from Prairie Charms, which are displayed in a hot drinks glass.
A glitter heart hair accessory, which is clipped on to my jewellery holder.
A wishbone necklace, of which I have removed the wishbone and put onto a charm necklace.
And finally a quote poster, which is proudly sitting on my IKEA cubes.
